Liftbrief / Regulatory news and changes

What must executive offices change for UK and European private flights?

Build a passenger-permission and border-processing check into the mission brief. Aircraft availability is only one part of an international booking.

What changed for UK travel on 25 February 2026?

The UK moved to full enforcement of digital permission-to-travel requirements on that date. Current general-aviation guidance requires the responsible person to check travel documents and, where required, an ETA, visa or other permission; the reporting system returns permission information. (questions-statements.parliament.uk)

The general GAR submission window is no earlier than 48 hours and no later than two hours before expected departure, through an approved method. The guidance also requires a new report for specified changes, including an aircraft change or additional passengers; separate police requirements can apply to certain routes. (gov.uk)

Recommended organiser workflow:

  • Ask the operator who owns the GAR submission and permission check.
  • Give travellers a secure route to supply required information directly.
  • Confirm that changes to passengers or aircraft are escalated to the reporting owner.
  • Include documentation failure in the cancellation and recovery discussion.
  • Reconfirm the final manifest before departure without pressuring the crew to bypass a requirement.

What does EES change at European arrival?

EES became fully operational on 10 April 2026 following progressive deployment. It concerns relevant non-EU nationals travelling for short stays and records border-crossing information, including biometric data under the system’s rules. (travel-europe.europa.eu)

For fixed-deadline travel, ask the operator and handler where processing occurs, whether the chosen arrival facility can support the flight, and what contingency is available. Do not publish a universal extra-processing-time estimate without evidence for the airport and traveller circumstances.

Is ETIAS required now?

The current official FAQ says ETIAS is not operational and applications are not being collected. It says the specific start date will be announced several months before launch. Earlier Commission material referred to the final quarter of 2026, but that historical target is not a confirmed current start date. (travel-europe.europa.eu)

Keep ETIAS on the monitoring list. Do not represent a speculative 2027 date as settled either.
