Liftbrief / Scorecard
How do you compare private jet charter quotes on total mission cost?
Create a quote equaliser before scoring price. NATA’s consumer guide identifies potential extras including landing fees, de-icing, hangar storage, taxes, crew waiting and overnight charges, and explains that logistics can affect the final charter price. (nata.aero)
Use this proposed comparison template:
| Cost field | Record for each proposal |
|---|---|
| Flight charge | Fixed trip price or rate; billable-time definition; rounding and minimums |
| Positioning | Included, fixed additional amount, conditional formula or unspecified |
| Crew and airport costs | Waiting, overnight, handling, parking and other stated charges |
| Passenger services | Catering, ground transport, connectivity and special requests |
| Taxes | Included amounts, applicable basis and who collects them |
| Weather and operational contingencies | Trigger, payer, pricing method and cap, if any |
| Changes and cancellation | Liability at each relevant deadline |
| Recovery | Replacement premium, duplicate payment exposure and refund timing |
Classify every item as included, separately priced, conditional or unspecified.
Present three outputs rather than a single blended estimate:
- Known mission expenditure: confirmed non-duplicated charges and applicable quoted taxes.
- Scenario expenditure: named contingencies priced under explicit assumptions.
- Unpriced exposure: items that cannot yet be quantified.
Do not assign a zero value to an unspecified charge. Equally, do not add repositioning, tax or crew costs again when already included.
What US private-jet taxes should the worksheet flag?
IRS Publication 510 specifies a 7.5% tax on amounts paid for taxable transportation of persons by air and a USD 5.30 domestic-segment tax for 2026. Applicability, exemptions, international treatment and the taxable charge base require transaction-specific checking; do not apply these mechanically to every invoice or fractional arrangement. The supplier should identify its tax treatment, and an appropriately qualified adviser should resolve material uncertainty. A generic online private jet charter cost calculator is not sufficient evidence for a binding approval.
