16. What happens if my charter is cancelled or the aircraft develops a fault?

Your commercial remedy depends on the applicable agreement and law; replacement at the original price should not be assumed. As a concrete contractual example, Aircraft Charter’s published terms provide for alternatives at additional cost in specified circumstances, or a refund subject to their provisions. That is evidence of one contract structure, not a universal industry rule. (aircraftcharter.com)

Ask suppliers to complete this matrix before you sign:

EventWhat must be established
Mechanical unavailabilityReplacement obligation, timing and who pays the difference
Crew unavailabilityEscalation process and acceptable substitute carrier
Weather or airport disruptionRerouting, delay, cancellation and charging treatment
Passenger cancellationNotice deadlines, time zone and charge schedule
Aircraft substitutionRequired consent, minimum specification and price adjustment
Failed replacementRefund entitlement and payment process

Where Part 295 applies, brokers must make prompt refunds when transportation cannot be performed or refunds are otherwise due. (ecfr.gov)

Separate finding another aircraft from funding that aircraft, and separate both from arriving before your deadline.

For a critical journey, request an agreed escalation contact, decision deadline and spending authority for alternatives. A refund may resolve the fare dispute without resolving the missed meeting or performance.
